Wednesday Wanderers – Kotara

Wednesday Mornings – 10am-midday

Kotara Bowling Club is home to a Ukestra established in March 2012. There are around 30 regulars with attendances usually in the teens (though the age range is definitely not teen!). After a few years under their belt, the majority of people are now intermediate but there are some more experienced players (and singers) regularly attending.

Kathy (on the left), with Judi, at Danielle’s farewell.

The venue is light, airy and spacious enough that the teacher/leader is challenged to keep everyone within earshot and playing as a unit! For six years this group was lead by Danielle Scott. Danielle went to different pastures in April 2018 and the group is now lead by Kathy Wilson whose program builds on Danielle’s legacy, building skills within the context of the general Ukestra repertoire as well as basic singing techniques and simply having fun playing enjoyable songs.

The group has its own theme song (see below) and regularly participates in performances (at Nursing Homes or Ukulele Festivals). The theme song was written by everyone when they were originally located at the Alder Park Bowling Club.  In all they are an enthusiastic, friendly group who love a laugh and are always keen to try out songs which will improve their skills.

Kathy Wilson has attended ukestras since 2011 and has a musically rich family history giving her the curiosity and the skills to help others develop theirs!

The cost to attend is $17.00 casual. As with other ukestras, buying a uketen reduces that cost to $13.50 per session.

The Kotara Bowling Club is in Howell St, Kotara.

If you are new, we do like to know if you are coming.

Hope to see you soon on a Wednesday morning!
