For want of a name, we have taken a nautical theme…. The SS Ukestra …
Watch this ship!
Have you ever wanted to play in a small ensemble, such as a chamber group, different from the big and rambunctious ukulele orchestra? Well here is our next ukulele idea, we thought we would offer you a chance to play in a small and special ukestra.
The idea is to set up groups of 8 to 12 people (including a bass player) that will work on the repertoire of their choice under the guidance of either Mark, Jane or John. We need people of different skills in each group and it will give you an opportunity to work on a hand-full of songs to performance ready. The repertoire would be more focused on your skill development and you would have a choice of songs. This would be a six week course (each session = 1 hour). You would be required to practice in your own time. The course would culminate in a group performance of your chosen songs.
Each group will need the following:
- a bass player
- a player or 2 to do single chord thumb strums and other easy parts
- a player or 2 who do the more challenging riffs,
- a player or 2 comfortable with taking solos,
- singers – lead and harmony singers,
- Maybe someone to pick out arpeggios?
When?
Tuesday 25th May at 6.30pm and Thursday 27th May at 5.30pm ……
Where?
Carrington Bowling Club for the Thursday night ….. and maybe your home for Tuesday night or our house in Merewether
Cost?
$120 for all 6 classes
This is not an online course
We do this course face to face, in person! The sessions will be recorded so you can practice at home if you miss a class. However this is all about playing music together with the guidance and assistance of a teacher.
Please fill in the EOI form below so we can work out your best group or time!
We will chose the groups based on your skill level, your day and time preferences as well your friendship groups.
