Each ukestra has its own character and the Showcase is your opportunity to let others see the heart of your ukestra. Do the work now, select your songs, lead players, lead singers and backing singers. Then practice the life out of it so you can give your best performance.
At our last Showcase we had 400+ people. You can witness many of those performances here.
With 11 different groups to honour we only get 15 minutes each, which means that, with convivial (and logistical) breaks, we easily fill a whole afternoon. We know that there are many other local (large and small) ukulele-focussed performers that started at a local ukestra, but unfortunately time just does not allow us to accommodate performances from these groups or individuals.
Each ukestra and choir has the option to be accompanied by a drummer (the wonderful Tom Dowding), and your own bass player, or one of ours (John or Mark).
Plus we have arranged for our One Song Sing videographer extraordinaire, Peter King, to film the whole thing. It’ll give you some nice youtubes to nitpick over in the future with your children, grandchildren and/or parents/spouses/work colleagues.
At the last Showcase (!! 2015!!) we had 400+ people, but this was with lots of parents of the kids we were teaching at the time. The 2019 Showcase initially has limits on audience numbers so as to enable all Ukestrans and Ukestral Voices people to get a seat as a priority.
