Calling all community ukulele groups, soloists, duos, trios, quadros – if you wish to perform at the festival, please send an email to ….
This is going to be a fantastic weekend of music, cultural welcoming, being at on and in the beach, having fun. Can you think of a nicer time to be in Opotiki? Do you even know where it is?
How do I get there?
Drive! (5ish hours from Auckland, 7ish hours from Wellington, a million miles from care).
Fly! (If you’re Aussie)
Walk! (around town – it’s a small, gorgeous town right on the coast, overlooking New Zealand’s most active volcano – White Island)
Where do I stay?
We can’t think of a nicer place to stay than the cabins and campgrounds of our major sponsor – the Island View Holiday Park.
What will we do there?
Our festival is working closely with local whanau to bring together our esteemed guests with the local Torere Marae and our community.
Friday – Powhiri and hangi at the local marae. Kiri? Got some info on this? Sunset uke jam on the beach.
Saturday – Community concerts, open mic, workshops and major concert.
Sunday – this needs fleshing out.
Is there anything to do other than play ukulele?
What a silly question! Opotiki is the capital of relaxation and adventure! Surf, swim, sit around on the beach. Helicopter tours to White Island, Motu Trails….give us some text for this Ngaio.
