Mal Webb – one of the world’s strangest, most enduring, endearing, confusing and entertaining festival acts. In a loungeroom. In Dudley. Just for you.
You’re a freak – Ani DiFranco
Like a cross between Ella Fitzgerald and Bobby McFerrin – Monica Trapaga
We are thrilled and privileged to host Mal Webb and Kylie Morrigan on Sunday 6 January 2019 in Bruce’s House.
Who are Mal Webb and Kylie Morrigan?
Around the world and into your brain, vocal adventurer, multi-instrumentalist and looping beatboxing songwriter Mal sings his songs about all manner of stuff. He’s like Bobby McFerrin, Skrillex and Cole Porter playing scrabble.
Mal is returning through Newcastle from his annual Woodford spot (he is part of the program furniture there, for some decades now!). He is also regularly in demand in Europe, particularly Glastonbury Festival.

No single video can capture all of the styles that Mal does. He does play guitar, uke, trombone, guitar, and bass, as well as being an internationally renowned looping and beatboxing master. But this is his latest video. Very entertaining, and a great song. Only made better by the live harmonies and fiddle of Kylie Morrigan.

Supported by Newcastle’s very own Jack n Jel n Wal
Together they have toured the beaches of Newcastle, Hawai’i, British Columbia and Iceland, giving workshops in all sorts of things including ukulele and surf life saving skills (not so much the latter).
They are known for beautiful renditions of their own songs and ones written by oft-times better composers. Cheeky, cute, and likeable. Guaranteed to be enjoyed. Click the poser shot to listen to their CD.
For this concert Jack n Jel are joined by the inordinately talented, furry and cute John Wallace.
Online Ticket Sales are now closed, and (almost) sold out.
Get in touch if you are inordinately keen.
What do you need to bring? Food, drink, chair, rags.
Food: if you feel so inclined bring something nibbly and small to share.
Drink: bring something for yourself to drink, and a vessel from which to drink.
Chair: bring a small camping chair or beanbag. Nothing too imposing please. And maybe an old towel or rag (or four) to place under the feet of your chair if you are on the nice timber floor.
Other things? All fees go to the artists (and the credit card transaction people). Swimmers (Bruce has a pool). Extra money for CDs? Your respectful quiet listening ears (although appropriate interjections may be relevant). Support this event to ensure that small pieces of Melbourne, and real, local and live music, in a rather nice place, continues to happen in Dudley.
Bruce? Thank-you Bruce, you are wonderful.
