Ukastle Ukestra Hawaii Ukulele Festival performance 2014 – updated 18 June
We have scheduled a combination of five Thursday evenings and Saturday morning rehearsals.
1. Saturday 31 May – Kotara Bowling Club – – 10:30am – midday
2. Thursday 12 June – Kotara Bowling Club – 5-6:30pm
3. Saturday 21 June – 10:30am – midday – Kotara Bowling Club
4. Thursday 26 June – Kotara Bowling Club – 5-6:30pm
5. Thursday 3 July – Kotara Bowling Club – 5-6:30pm
For the main concert (10 minutes) we have selected Riptide, Royals and Dream Lover (was previously Trains n Boats n Planes). These Soundcloud files are of our recent rehearsals for Riptide (slowed down) and Dreamlover.
We will also have a 20-30 minute concert in a side lunch tent (which is lower profile, but perhaps more enjoyable). We’ll decide that repertoire from a list of our three main songs + some others.
Please learn and keep your parts and stick to the arrangements for the selected songs.
We are planning to have dinner together on the Saturday night (of the festival). One of our number will be turning 60 (Greg) whilst we are over there.
Kate has suggested we go to the Outrigger ‘Reef on the Beach’ Hotel, which is at the western end of Waikiki (just next to Fort DeRussy).
Directions are here. The menu is here. Kanikapila Grille is the name of what seems to be the appropriate restaurant there. Not too expensive (but note the 18% service charge for groups of 6 or more – that must be the usual 15% tip plus a little more).
It seems that people are also wanting to go to the Kanikapila at Da Racks prior to that, so dinner might be a bit later.
The list of Ukestrans going to Hawaii is now …
There are a few qualifications to this. Sonia is not around on the Sunday of the performance. Janet Watkins has recently dropped from the list. I have added in Dave (last name unknown – chief egg shaker) and Carol (from The Roladoors) and Charles and Karen Harmon (Wednesday night ukestra).
Quite a sizeable group!
We also have the benefit of having all of an existing group – The Roladoors – along and joining in our performance – being Geoff, The Princess (Lee), Judi, her Prince (Dave) and Carol. They do great four part harmony.
The names we have down are:
If there are others please let us know as it is not too late. Once we have final confirmation we will send off the form. We will pay on our credit card. The cost is US$85 per person, so we will need more than $85 once it is processed. We shall let you know how much it is.
If you feel like you’d like to participate in the mass strumalong during the festival, they have scheduled two songs. Below is copied from an email sent by the Festival.
You will know La Bamba – a three chord wonder – so they haven’t attached a songsheet.
Chord progression throughout is C / / F / / G7 / / / /
Chord progression is G and D7 except for the one C chord in the Chorus.
They ask you to please memorise the songs.
